The Westboro Baptist Church went to picket the funerals of the fallen children of the heinous shooting. Proclaiming it was “gods” judgement due to the state standing up for gay marriage. Well, they came face to face with hundreds of Hells Angels. The bikers formed a human wall blocking Westboro from entering. Needless to say, the disrespectful bible thumpers backed down.

I wondered if those people would try and do something like that… Thank you Hells Angels.

ACTA & PIPA are back in a new form called CISPA - it’s moving through the Congress right now and would allow prosecutors to disregard or change any existing law concerning internet safety and protection.

Fun Fact I: The US was downgraded again today from AA+ to AA by the Rating Firm Egan-Jones - the same firm that was also the first to downgrade the US back in Juli 2011, shortly before Standard&Poor’s did the same.

Fun Fact II: None of the large media outlets bothered to even report this.

Is that because we don’t really care about our rating anymore or are we simply afraid to make it public because we know that this whole bubble of ever-growing debt must at some point implode and probably cause another worldwide crisis?

Republicans want to regulate women’s access to contraception and want to deny them their right to have abortions. Republicans would love to impose even stricter regulations on immigrants (illegal or not), they want to restrict our civil liberties even further, all in the name of the war against terror.

The only aspect of life they really want to deregulate is everything that benefits companies and the wealthy in general: less regulation when it comes the environment, the financial sector, health care, housing and much more. The only thing one can expect from a Republican President is the freedom for companies to screw you over without punishment.

The so-called “Buffett Rule,” which would close loopholes and tax the super-wealthy on a fairer basis than is true right now was, once again, struck down in the Senate by Republican filibustering.

The Rachel Maddow Show did an excellent reporting on this issue tonight. They made the claim that this is not just about the fairer taxation of rich (which will indeed not solve solve our deficit problems by itself) but about the question of whether our democratic system is still able to enact legislation that is highly favored by a large majority of the electorate against corporate money and interests.

The same question can be applied to why oil subsidies are still in place or why the public option was struck down (while it was still favored by a majority of the population).

Money rules our political system and as long as this holds true there can be no real change in this country away from what favors a small fraction of the people towards what favors the large majority.

Concerning the Kony 2012 issue:

Raising awareness about this situation is a great thing but people need to have a closer look into “Invisible Children” and the stuff they spend their money on + what they suposse we should do. Supporting the Ugandan army is certainly not the solution since they are almost as bad as Kony himself + Kony doesn’t even operate in Uganda anymore since 2006.

I rode on the wave of enthusiasm as well yesterday without checking facts… shame on me.

Mr. Romney said in a interview yesterday that the discussion about income equality is driven by envy.
Oh so the poor are simply envy! You mean the people who work up to 80 hours a week and still barely live above the poverty line? The people who have three separate jobs and still don’t earn as much in a year as some CEO’s in a day? You mean the people who couldn’t afford our ridiculously expensive education and therefore have to work at McDonald? Or maybe the people who did decide to get a higher education and are now drowning in debt.

And this guy may well be our next President!

You know what in fact differentiates FOX and MSNBC? MSNBC clearly has a liberal bias but they follow the ethics of real journalism, namely doing some actual research, presenting both sides, let both sides make their comments and only present things as facts when they are indeed facts and when they have proof for it.

FOX disregards all of that if it serves their purpose to smear liberals, atheists, Democrats or the left itself.

There is a difference between having a left or right leaning bias and simply indoctrinating people with hate based on lies and dishonest statements.

I had a heated argument with a good friend of mine who happens to be a Republican. The subject doesn’t matter but what I want to say is that, I laid out quotes, sources, articles and legal analysis to support my point and all that came from him was that “most Americans support his view.”
Republicans nowadays are too often enclosed within their right-wing, populist rhetoric, created mostly by FOX News and seem unable to leave this bubble of disinformation even when presented with hard facts.

The problem is not that a private company paid a lot of money to a private employee of theirs - that’s their right to do even though its pretty crazy.

The real problem is that those are the people and companies we cannot tax more under the GOP doctrine since they are “job creators”. But instead of creating jobs they pay their money to people who haven’t done anything besides getting fired, leaving early or sitting on a Board. Can’t see how this is helping the economy my dear Republican friends.

There is something wrong with the current GOP setup. I consider myself a liberal but in my opinion that has nothing to do with being able to respect other opinions or different political ideologies. I have no problem with clearly stating my respect for the GOP or one of its candidates even if I disagree with them if their arguments are logical and make sense. But that, as you pointed out, almost completely disappeared over the last years and especially with the emergence of the Tea Party movement. Now Republican politics isn’t about national security, economics and jobs any more but about religion, abortion, death penalty and Obama being the Antichrist. While some of these issues may be important, they have nothing to do with politics overall and especially not in a country that is on the edge of economic collapse.
